Overview:

This "Train the Trainer" programme takes participants through the entire toolkit of beliefs, skills and behavioural strategies used by competent trainers. The course is highly experiential, with each participant getting feedback during and after "live" training sessions. Participants typically  use relevant organisational based materials, their own topics or pre-prepared training sessions. 

 

This programme is often run in conjunction with our

"Training Design Skills" programme.


Who will benefit:
This "Train the Trainer" programme has been developed for managers and functional / technical experts who want to pass their knowledge and skills onto others. Also highly relevant for those individuals moving into a full-time training role.

Objectives:
By the end of this "Train the Trainer" programme you will be able to:

  • define the role of a trainer
  • feel at ease and confident as a trainer
  • write and bring to life training objectives
  • structure training materials to allow for time constraints / needs of trainees
  • effectively use a wide range of visual aids
  • create and manage interactive group work and feedback
  • manage problems that arise in the training room
  • work effectively with a co-trainer
  • learn some “tricks of the trade” used by highly skilled training professionals
  • evaluate training sessions against pre-determined training objectives

  • Using warm up exercises

  • Leading introductions

  • Assessment of prior experience

  • Defining the role of the trainer

  • How does training fit with presenting and facilitating?

  • Exploring participant beliefs and fears about “training”

  • What kind of trainer do you aspire to be?

  • Setting and using learning objectives

  • Review of range and purpose of  “warm up” exercises

  • Training delivery sessions and feedback

  • How people learn

  • Learning styles – trainers and trainees

  • Training sequences – e.g. “Full input, exercise and review” or “exercise, gap filling input and review”

  • Selecting training methods for differing groups – presentations, group work, individual work etc

  • Using visual aids – pc’s, pc projectors, whiteboards, flip-charts, hand-outs etc

  • Multiple methods for reviewing training sessions

  • The purpose of group exercises

  • Designing group exercises

  • Running group exercises

  • Handling objections

  • Time keeping

  • Building rapport with your audience

  • Reading body language

  • Managing your own body language and state.

  • Managing your emotions as a trainer / facilitator.

  • Handling common difficult situations.

  • How to evaluate and continuously improve your training and facilitation delivery

Training Style: Interactive, enjoyable  and thought provoking. The workshop uses inputs from the course leader, group and individual exercises, case studies, psychometrics and discussions.

Train the trainer sessions will also include simulated training sessions, where other participants go into role as a typical audience!
